In Memory of
Dudley Morine "Red" Garret

Dudley Garrett lost his life November 25th 1944 serving with the Canadian Navy ship's company of HMCS Shawinigan (K 136), a flower class Corvette. The Shawinigan was torpedoed by the German submarine U-1228 and sank with the loss of all hands on board. Dudley was 20.

In 1947, the American Hockey league initiated the Dudley "Red" Garrett Memorial Award, which annually honours the top AHL rookie as voted by the media and players. In 1957 the award was renamed the Dudley (Red) Garrett Award.
